A Celebration of Immigration: From the Turn of the Century, to the Current Refugee Crisis & Beyond
May 2, 2022 @ 9:00 am - May 3, 2022 @ 2:00 pm
FreeConference participants will enjoy a rich mentoring and networking opportunity as
they take part in a roundtable discussion of U.S. immigration law with prominent
immigration law experts. The venue will be the New York office of Fragomen, Del
Rey, Bernsen & Loewy – recognized as the 2022 “Law Firm of the Year” in
immigration law.
Discussion leaders, including the Honorable Mimi Tsankov – a Federal immigration
judge, the president of the National Association of Immigration Judges, and a
professor at the Fordham School of Law – will lead middle school students, law
students, and immigration law practitioners in a multifaceted and
multigenerational examination of U.S. immigration in the 19th, 20th, and 21st
centuries.
Excursions to the Tenement Museum, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty will
provide a cultural context for the conference. The event also includes a musical
performance by Broadway star Telly Leung of “Aladdin” fame at the Museum at
Eldridge Street, one of the first synagogues in New York, and was built by
immigrant Eastern European Jews.
Early registration is advised, as space will be limited. The event is free but
participants will be required to pay excursion fees.
Special thanks to Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy, the New York City Bar
Association, the Ella Baker Middle School, and the NYU School of Law.
